Meet Nicola

Sustainable textile artist and author of the 'Eco Printing in the Dirty Pot' e-Book

Three words describe Nicola Brown’s textile practice; simple, natural, crafted. She harnesses the natural dye in leaves, onion skins, seed pods, and bark to create lasting prints and colour on fabric and garments. This is achieved in a health conscious and environmentally mindful way without using any harsh powdered chemicals.

Since starting to develop a sustainable way of working, Nicola has planted over 13,500 trees on her property and laid out large dye borders. These support a diverse selection of butterflies, insects, birds, and mammals which help convey the wider ecological aspect of her practice.

Unlike other courses, you actually explain the “how to” in great detail. You don’t leave anything out of the process so it’s completely understandable.

You have also made the courses affordable. I lost my job during the pandemic so my funds were low.

The course not only gave me purpose but also allowed me to follow it without stressing about the cost.

I am a linear learner and learn best with clear detailed instructions or with close hands-on training.

Your classes provide some of the best instruction I have ever experienced.

Your notes are clear & easy to understand. Your videos are high quality and again linear with details and broken into digestible segments.

I watched all of your videos on YouTube and fell in love with you and how you teach.

I wanted to learn from you! Your no worries and not having to measure mordants made me happy.

I like doing a little of this and that. Each time, things might be different but that is part of this adventure!

Francesca Tosetti, Rome, Italy

I am relatively new to eco printing, I discovered Nicola videos and free classes on YouTube and was amazed by her generosity and inner kindness in leading lectures and explanations of the techniques she is master. I then read her 'Eco Printing in the Dirty Pot' eBook and decided to enroll in the membership programme. I'm happily learning a lot following her course, now trying wet felting too, a quite irksome topic to me! Nicola is surely one of the best teachers I've ever found, I am really grateful to her "bible" instructions and suggestions.

Four years ago I started my new hobby in dyeing with Indigo and Shibori, 2 years later with eco dyeing. Then last year  on Pinterest I got mails about Eco printing. I was interested to try it, and starting to get information about it. At the end of the year on YouTube I found videos from Nicola Brown with her Eco printing in the Dirty Pot. What ??...Eco printing without powdered mordants ? I will learn it. Then I decided ordered her e Book and to join the Membership. Now after 6 months experimentations, I can tell you that I am really glad do not need to use powdered mordants like my eco dyeing anymore. I am still new in eco printing but very satisfied with the results of my experimentations.

My background is wet felting. I was so excited to join Nicola’s Eco Printing and Felting club. Eco printing was the next step for me to enhance my felting. I have found it really exciting, as Nicola says unrolling your eco printed bundle is like opening a wonderful gift, and it truly is. I’ve also learned more tips and Techniques to help me with my felting. Nicola is a great instructor/mentor. The videos and instructions are easy to follow. The members of the club are just great. It’s awesome to see their work, and questions are answered quickly by Nicola and lots of informative input from the club. I would highly recommend the club to anyone interested in Eco printing, and felting.
